2018 NIGHTHAWKS SET RECORDS, RECEIVE RECOGNITION

Evan Eggleston - Academic All-American

2018 saw a record-setting season for several Newtown Nighthawk boys lacrosse players.

Tucker Garrity set a single season record for points and assists. Newtown’s best all-purpose player notched 69 goals and 60 assists as a junior for a total of 129 total points, the best ever by a Newtown player. The 2018 assist total brought his career mark up to 127, which means he should easily take the career lead as a senior. The Jacksonville University commit is also poised to assume the mantel of the Nighthawks all-time leading scorer, as his combined goals and assists for the 2018 season brought him to second place on the career list, as he has delivered 255 total points to the Nighthawks offense since his freshman year in 2016. For his efforts, Garrity was named First Team All SWC and Second Team All State in Class L.

Graduating seniors made their marks as well.

Evan Eggleston found his way into the 8th place spot on career assists with 71 total helpers over his time as a varsity player. Eggleston was named to the SWC’s Second Team. Perhaps his greatest achievement was being named an Academic All American, joining some of Newtown’s finest student athletes that have received that honor previously.

Layton Harrell had a fantastic 2018 season, as he was named First Team All SWC.  The senior midfielder, who has committeed to play lacrosse at Stony Brook University next year, scored 62 markers, giving him the #8 spot on the all time goals scored list for Nighthawk players. Harrell's efforts also cemeted him in the #8 place for all time total points in the Newtown record book.

Junior face-off specialist Tanner Stergue and sophomore defender Kyle Shirk were also recognized for their exemplary seasons by being named First Team All SWC. Shirk, a newcomer to the Newtown lacrosse program this year, had a fantastic season and also was recognized as Second Team All State in Class L.

Additionally, Second Team All SWC recognition went to senior defenders Cayden Dunn and Tyler Rising, as  well as senior short stick defensive midfielder Michael Gardner.
